Saharsa : Armed criminals numbering around a dozen shot dead New Colony, Saharsa, resident Mahendra Singh, 60, at 3.45 pm on June 24, 2017, at his house. After killing Mahendra Singh of Begusarai district, the assailants escaped unchallenged firing in the air.
Pankaj Kumar Singh, son of the deceased and a medical representative, said that his mother Manju Devi is an ANM posted at Saur Bazaar in Saharsa district and they were living at their house at New Colony under Sadar police station, Saharsa, for the last five years.
Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the family had a dispute with neighbours Hero Rajak, Pankaj Singh, Manoj Singh and Anil Singh over a four feet wide road ever since his father had purchased land for construction of his house. He alleged that he and his family members were assaulted two months back over the issue and both the sides had lodged FIR with Sadar police station in this connection but police did not take appropriate action.
He alleged that on June 24, Manu, son of Hero Rajak, reached his house with around a dozen armed criminals at 3.45 pm. They knocked at the door and as soon as his father Mahendra Singh came out, they fired on his chest. When Mahendra Singh rushed inside the house, the criminals entered the house and shot him in the head killing him on the spot, Pankaj Kumar Singh said adding that Sadar police station was immediately informed about the incident but police took 15 minutes to reach there.
SDPO, Saharsa, Subodh Biswas, and SHO, Sadar police station, Bhai Bharat, reached the spot and rushed Mahendra Singh to Saharsa Sadar hospital where the doctor declared him brought dead. The SDPO said that an FIR had been lodged on the statement of Pankaj Kumar Singh and police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
