New Delhi : The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Jnuary 18, 2018, announced schedule for the General Elections to Legislative Assemblies of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. All the three states of 60 Assembly Constituencies each. The General Elections to Legislative Assembly of Tripura will be held on February 18, 2018, and that of Meghalaya and Nagaland Legislative Assemblies on February 27, 2018. The counting of votes will take place on March 3, 2018.

The election process shall be completed before March 5, 2018. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government insofar as announcements/policy decisions pertaining to/for these States are concerned, according to a PIB release.

As part of its firm commitment towards gender equality and greater constructive participation of women in the electoral process, the Commission has also directed that, to the extent possible, ‘All- women Managed Polling Stations’ be set up in one polling station for each Assembly Constituency where the entire polling staff, including the police and security personnel, shall be women.

The term of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly expires on March 6, 2018, and that Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 13, 2018. The term of Tripura Legislative Assembly expires on March 14, 2018. In 60 Member Meghalaya Assembly, 55 seats are reserved for STs while in 60 Member Nagaland Assembly 59 seats are reserved for STs. In 60 Member Tripura Assembly, 20 seats are reserved for STs and 10 for SCs.

The number of polling stations in Meghalaya Assembly polls 2018 will be 3,082 compared to 2,485 in 2013, an increase of 24%. In Nagaland, the number pollings stations is 2,187 in 2018 compared 2.023 in 2013, an increase of 8.1 %. In Tripura,the number of polling stations is 3,214 in 2018 compared to 3,041 in 2013, an increase of 5.69 %.
