Patna : Second seed Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, and third seed Daniil Medvedev, 24, Russia, marched into the US Open ( Tennis) semi-finals on September 10, 2020, winning their respective quarter-finals matches in straight sets at Newyork City, Newyork, USA. The two players will clash in the semi-finals on September 12, 2020. Fifth seed Alexander Zverev, 23, Germany, will face 20th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, 29, Spain, in the other semi-finals the same day.
Dominic Thiem, the Australian Open finalist this year, brushed aside Alex de Minaur, 21, Australia, in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in quarter-finals to set up a semi-finals showdown with Russian Daniil Medvedev, the 2019 US Open finalist. Thiem won 7 break points in the match to 2 by Minaur. The Austrian also hammered 11 Aces in the match to just 1 by the Australian. Thiem, who had also reached French Open Final in 2018 and 2019, won 7 games in a row to 3 by Minaur, who had stunned 11th seed Karen Khachanov, Russia, in five-sets in third round. It will be Thiem’s first US Open semi-finals appearance.
Medvedev beat 10th seed Andrey Rublev, 22, Russia, in straight sets 7-6, 6-3, 7-6 in QFs winning just 1 break point in the match bsides two tiebreaks. Medvedev, who has won 7 career titles, hammered 16 Aces in the match to 10 by compatriot Rublev. Medvedev, however, also committed 3 double faults in the match to just 1 by Rublev, who had upset 6th seed Matteo Berrettini, Italy, in Round of 16. Medvedev, whose winning percentage both on his first and second serve was much higher than that of Rublev’s, also won 3 games in a row in the match. It was Rublev’s second QFs appearance at U S Open. He had also reached US Open QFs in 2017.
