Patna : World No 1 & top seed Novak Djokovic, 34, Serbia, and 10th seed Denis Shapovalov, 22, Canada, on July b7, 2021, reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon Championships at London, UK, winning their respective quarter-final matches in contrasting manner.
Djokovic beat World No 48 Marton Fucsovics, 29, Hungary, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Centre Court at All England Club, Wimbledon, London, in QF. The Serbian won 4 break points in the match to 1 by the Hungarian. Djokovic won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by Fucsovis. Djokovic, in all, won 108 points during the match to 86 by the Hungarian. Fucsovics, however, fired 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Djokovic.
World No 12 Shapovalov edged past 25th Karen Khachanov, 25, Russia, in a five-set marathon 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in QF on Court 1. Shapovalov, in all, won 159 points during the match to 134 by World No 29 Khachanov. The Canadian won 5 break points in the match to 3 by the Russian. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 4 by Khachanov. Shapovalov hammered 17 Aces during the match to 3 Khachanov. The Canadian, however, also committed 10 double faults in the match to 7 by the Russian. Shapovalov won 26 games during the match to 22 by the Russian. Shapovalov will face Djokovic in SF on July 8, 2021.
