Djokovic, Medvedev, Wawrinka & Dimitrov enter US Open 4th round

Patna : Top seed and three-time champion Novak Djokovic, Serbia, World No 5 Daniil Medvedev, Russia, World No 24 and 2016 champion Stan Wawrinka, Switzerland, and World No 78 Grigor Dimitrov, Bulgaria, entered the 4th round of US Open at New York City, USA, but World No 18 Nikoloz Basilashvilli, Georgia, crashed out of the tournament losing in the 3rd round.

Djokovic beat World No 111 Denis Kudla, 27, USA, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in third round breaking the latter’s service four times in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Both the players fired 6 Aces in the match. World No 1 Djokovic also committed 8 double faults to 3 by the American. Djokovic, the winner of 75 career titles, won 68 service points to 53 by Kudla. Djokovic had won US Open title in 2011, 2015, and 2018.

Medvedev, who had defeated Djokovic in the semi-finals of Cincinnati Masters recently, beat World No 61 Feliciano Lopez, 37, Spain, in a tough contest 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in 3rd round. Medvedev hammered 27 Aces in the match to 13 by the Spaniard.  The Russian, however, also committed 8 double faults to 7 by Lopez. Both the players won 2 break points each in the match. Medvedev won 3 games in a row while Lopez won 2. The Russian won 104 service points to 98 by Lopez.

Wawrinka beat World No 135 Paolo Lorenzi, 37, Italy, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in 3rd round. Wawrinka fired 24 Aces in the match to 5 by Lorenzi. The SWiss star won 3 break points in the match to 2 by the Italian. He won 86 service poin ts to 76 by Lorenzi. Wawrinka won 3 games in a row in the match to 2  by Italian. Wawrinka will face Djokovic in 4th round.

Dimitrov beat World No 94 Kamil Majchrzak, 23,Poland, a qualifier, 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 in 3rd round. Dimitrov won 4 break points to 1 by Kamil. He fired 8 Aces in the match to 7 by the Pole. The Bulgarian on 73 service points to 67 by Kamil. Dimitrov will face Alez de Minaur, Australia, in 4th round.

World No Dominik Koepfer, Germany, upset World No 18 Basilashvilli 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 in 3rd round. Koepfer fired 13 Aces in the match to 6 by Basilashvilli, who committed 14 double faults in the match. Koepfer won 6 break points in the match to 4 by the Georgia. Koepfer won 5 games in a row while Basilashvilli won 4. The German 77 service points to 69 by the Georgian. Koepfer will face Medvedev in 4th round.
