Patna : World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 34, Serbia, who is gunning for a Calendar Slam and record 21st Grand Slam singles title, and World No 2 Daniil Medvedev, 25, Russia, who is bidding for his first Grand Slam title, will clash in the US Open men’s singles final at New York, USA, on September 13, 2021, early morning.

Top seed Djokovic defeated World No 4 & 4th seed Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, the Tokyo Olympics Gold Medallist, in a five-set marathon 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 lasting almost 4 hours in semi-final on September 11, 2021, early morning, on Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, rallying back from one set down.

Djokovic, who had lost to Zverev in Tokyo Olympics semi-final, won 6 break points during the match to 3 by the German. He also won 5 games in a row to 3 by Zverev. The Serbian, in all, won 141 points during the match to 133 points by the German. Zverev, however, hammered 16 Aces in the match. But, the German also committed 8 double faults in the match to 2 by the Serbian World No 1. The match involved a very long rally.

Second seed Medvedev defeated World No 15 & 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, 21, Canada, in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in semi-final on Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, to reach his second US Open final winning 5 break points during the match to none by Aliassime. The Russian also won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by the Canadian.

Medvedev, the 2019 US Open finalist, won 104 points in the match to 73 points by Aliassime.  the 2021 Australian pen finalist, hammered 12 Aces during the match to 4 by the Canadian.  Medvedev committed 4 double faults in the match to 10 by the Canadian.
