Djokovic enters QF of French Open, Cecchinato stuns Goffin

Patna : Former World No 1 and winner of 12 Grand Slam singles titles Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, entered the quarter-finals of French Open 2018 on June 3, 2018, but World No 9 David Goffin, 27, Belgium, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of World No 72 Marco Cecchinato, 25, Italy.

Djokovic defeated World No 35 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, on Philippe Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris, in the Round of 16 on June 3. Both the players fired 3 Aces each in the match. But, Verdasco committed 2 double faults compared to none by Djokovic. The 2016 French Open Champion Djokovic won 5 break points while Verdasco won just 1.

Cecchinato defeated Goffin in four sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, in the Round of 16 on Suzanne Lenglen court at Roland Garros, Paris, to enter the QF of French Open for the first time. Cecchinato had never progressed beyond first round at any Grand Slam event in the past. Cecchinato fired 8 Aces compared to 3 by Goffin. Goffin committed 3 double faults compared to 1 by Cecchinato. The Italian also won 6 break points while Goffin won just 2.
