Patna : World No 72 in ATP rankings Marco Cecchinato, 25, Italy, stunned World No 11 Pablo Carreno Busta, 26, Spain, beating him 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the third round of French Open 2018 in a major upset in the tournament on June 1, 2018.
Cecchinato won 6 break points compared to 4 by Busta. Cecchinato fired 4 aces compared to 3 by Busta. World No 5 Grigor Dimitrov, 27, Bulgaria, also lost to Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, 34, in a massive upset in the third round earlier on the day.
But, 2016 champion and World No 22 Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, entered the 4th round defeating of French Open World No 13 Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in the third round on Suzanne Leglen court on June 1. Djokovic fired 10 aces in the match compared to 3 by Agut. Djokovic committed 3 double faults compared to 2 by Agut. Djokovic, however, won 8 break points compared to 5 by Agut.
World No 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, also entered the 4th round defeating World No 96 Matteo Berrettini, 22, Italy, in four sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round on Court 1. Thiem, however, committed 7 double faults in the match compared to 6 by Barrettini. But, Barrettini fired 9 aces compared to 7 by Thiem. Thiem won 6 break points compared to 2 by Barrettini.
