Djokovic beats Thiem to reach final of Madrid Open

Patna : World No 1 and top seed Novak Djokovic, Serbia, beat World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 25, Austria, in tough contest lasting 2hr and 2 minutes in the semi-finals to reach the final of Madrid Open, Madrid, on May 11, 2019, night. Two-time champion Novak Djokovic,  31, winner of 15 Grand Slam singles title, beat Thiem 7-6, 7-6 in the semi-finals.

Both the players traded service breaks thrice each in the match. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Djokovic served 3 Aces in the match to 2 by Thiem, a two-time finalist at the event. Djokovic won 57 service points to 48 by Thiem. Thiem had won Indian Wells Masters and Barcelona Open titles this year.

Djokovic will face the winner of second semi-finals between World No 2 and five-time champion Rafael Nadal, 32, and World No 9 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece scheduled to start at 12.30 am on May 12, 2019.
