Patna : DIG, Central Range, Patna, Rajesh Kumar, on July 10, 2018, suspended SHO, Mahila police staion, Vibha Kumari, SI, for not registering an FIR regarding rape of a 5 year old girl on July 8, 2018.

The SHO neither took any action in the case nor informed senior police officials about the incident. The SHO also did not sent the survivor for medical examination within 24 hours eventually hampering evidence collection process. As a result the victim and her family memebers left their house and moved to some other place fearing the accused.

When the DIG, Central Range, received information about conduct of SHO, Mahila police station, he directed City SP (Central), Patna, to ask DSP, Secretariat to inquire into the incident. During inquiry, injury marks and bleeding were found on the private parts of the survivor. The statements of the parents of the girl were also video recorded. Thereafter, a case under different sections of IPC including Section 376 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012,  was registered against the accused. The DIG said the negligence on the part of SHO, Mahila polie station, allowed the accused to escape.

The DIG has ordered for a written test to select the new SHO of Mahila police station, Patna. All the 40 women SIs posted in Patna district will appear in the written test and interview on July 11 from 10 am to 11 am at New policeline, Patna. A team comprising City SP (East, West, and Central), and  Sp ( Rural), Patna, has been constituted for the purpose. The team will submit a panel of 3 SHOs to the DIG, Central Range, on July 11, 2018, at 2 pm. The next SHO, Mahila Police Station, will be selected from the panel.
