New Delhi : Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways Mansukh L Mandaviya while answering a question in Rajya Sabha on January 2, 2018, informed that as per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, the desirable distance between two fee plazas on same section of National Highway (NH) and in same direction is 60 km. However, based on the site specific constraints, the executing authority may relax this criterion for reasons to be recorded in writing as provided in Rule 8.
The Minister said that the fee plazas have been established keeping in view the project requirement and in accordance with NH Fee Rules 2008. He added that at present, there are 460 fee plazas on National Highways (NHs) across the country and of these, 102 have been established on NHs since April, 2015. He informed the House that a revenue of Rs 6,725.72 Crore and Rs 6,923.95 Crore was generated by the NHAI during the financial year 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively, according to a PIB release.
