Death toll in Bihar flood increases to 253

Patna : There is no let up in flood fury in Bihar with over 1.26 crore people in 1,965 panchayats under 171 blocks in 18 districts reeling under it. The death toll in the flood increased to 253 on August 20, 2017. The flood had claimed 202 human lives till August 19.

Araria district alone accounts for 57 death followed by 31 in Sitamarhi, 29 in West Champaran, 23 in Katihar, 19 in East Champaran, 13 each in Madhubani, Supaul and Madhepura, 11 in Kishanganj, 10 in Darbhanga and 9 in Purnia district, according to an official figure. The state government is running 2,569 community kitchens in 18 flood affected district giving food to over 4.92 lakh flood affected people. The government is also running 1,358 relief camps in the flood hit districts where over 4,21 lakh have taken shelter.
