Patna : Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 44 runs in the 7th match of IPL at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, as opener Prithvi Shaw scored 64 in 43 balls with 9 fours and a six and fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, both from South Africa, took two wickets each. Chasing a target of 176, CSK could score only 131/7 in 20 overs. It was CSK’s second defeat in three matches. CSK had won the toss and opted to bowl. Shaw was declared Player Of The Match.
Batting first, DC openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan added 94 runs for the first wicket. Dhawan fell to spinner Piyush Chawla for 35 in 27 balls with 3 fours and a six making it 94/1. Shaw also fell to Chawla soon and it was 103/2. Rishabh Pant (wk) and Captain Shreyas Iyer added 58 runs for the 3rd wicket. Iyer fell to fast bowler Sam Curran for 26 in 22 balls with just 1 four making it 161/3. Pant remained unbeaten on 37 in 25 balls hitting 6 fours and Marcus Stoinis remained 5 not out as DC scored 175/3 in 20 overs.
In reply, M S Dhoni led CSK lost their first three wickets with only 44 runs in 9.1 overs. Opener Shane Watson fell to spinner Axar patel for 14 making it 23/1. His opening partner Murali Vijay fell to Anrich Nortje for 10 and it was 34/2. Ruturaj Gaikwad was run out for 5 making it 44/3. Faf du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav added 54 runs for the 4th wicket. Jadhav fell to Nortje for 26 in 21 balls hitting 3 fours making it 98/4. Du Plessis followed him soon as he fell to Rabada for 43 in 35 balls hitting 4 fours and it was 113/5. Dhoni also fell to Rabada for 15 with 2 fours and it was 130/6. Ravindra Jadeja also fell to Rabada for 12 making it 131/7.
