Patna : Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by three wickets in the 50th match of IPL at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, on October 4, 2021, late night, with Shimron Hetmyer scoring an unbeaten 28 in 18 balls hitting 2 fours and 1 six and opener Shikhar Dhwan scoring 39 in 35 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes, both off medium fast bowler Deepak Chahar in 5th over. In fact, Dhawan hit Chahar for 2 four and 2 sixes in 5th over. Axar patel was named Player Of The Match
Set a target of 137 runs, DC scored 139/7 in 19.4 overs with fast bowler Kagiso Rabada scoring the winning four. DC had won the toss and opted to bowl. DC have now 20 points from 13 games while CSK have 18 points from as many games. With this defeat, CSK have lost their last two matches.
DC were staring at defeat after fast medium bowler Shardul Thakur took two wickets that of Shikhar Dhawan and spinner Ravichandra Ashwin ( 2) in 15th ove. DC were reeling at 99/6 after 15 overs. In came Shimron Hetmyer and the scenario changed as Dwayne Vravo and Josh Hazelewood bowled a poor 18th and 19th over conceding 12 and 10 runs respectively. Bravo also bowled the last over conceding 6 runs and two wides though he also took the wicket of Axar Patel in the same over. But, it was too late as the damage was already done. Incidentally, opener Prithvi Shar (10), Shreyas Iyer (2), and Rishabh pant (15 runs), all flopped this time.
Earlier batting first, CSK had scored 136/5 in 20 overs with Ambati Rayudu scoring an unbeaten 55 in 43 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
