Patna:  Darbhanga police came to the help of a family, whose relative was held hostage even after his death by the employees of a local private hospital at Laheriasarai as the family members did not have required new currency notes to pay to the clinic. Police said that one Mohd Iliyas, a native of Laukahi, was admitted to R B Memorial Hospital, Laheriasarai, a few days ago. Iliyas passed away on Thursday and his relatives demanded the body.

The family members possessed altogether Rs 35,000 cash including Rs 10,000 currency notes of old Rs 500. The employees of the clinic  refused to accept the old currency notes and refused to hand over the body to the family members. One of the relatives Tajbul Rehman said that they were willing to clear the bills of the hospital but the employees were not accepting the old currency notes. The family members created ruckus inside the hospital.

On getting information, a police team from Laheriasarai police station and some mediapersons reached there and pacified the family members. After intervention by the local police, the employees of the clinic accepted the old currency notes and handed over the deceased’s body to his family members.
