New Delhi : In recognition of the outstanding performance of Ms Meerabai Chanu at recently concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG), Ministry of Railways has promoted her as officer. Mirabai Chanu won the first gold for India at the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games 2018 with a power-packed performance in the women’s 48 kg category at Gold Coast, Australia.

On April 25, 2018, during felicitation of Indian Railway contingent which participated at Commonwealth Games 2018, Railways & Coal Minister Piyush Goyal had announced an immediate promotion to the officer rank for weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, a Padma Shri Awardee who bagged the gold in 48kg category at Gold Coast. He also directed that a new promotion policy shall be drafted to recognize the contribution of all and not just the medal winners, according to a PIB release.

Meerabai Chanu has been promoted as OSD (Sports) in Level 8 in pay matrix (7th CPC) on North East Frontier Railway. She was working as Chief Ticket Inspector, North East Frontier Railways.
