Patna : Croatia defeated Nigeria 2-0 in a Group D match of FIFA World Cup at Kaliningrad Stadium, Russia, on June 17, 2018. Croatia, who are making their fifth appearance in the World Cup having reached semi-finals in 1998, have won their opening match for the first time since their debut in the competition in 1998. Croatia were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Croatia scored their first goal courtesy Nigerian Midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo’s Own Goal in the 32 minute. Croatian player Mandzukic’s header deflected of Nigerian Midfielder Oghenekaro and entered the goal.

Croatia scored the second goal in the 71st minute when captain and Midfielder Luka Modric scored through penalty. Luka has scored his first goal in a World Cup match.
