Gopalganj: Six antique idols were looted from a mutt at village Khape under Vijayeepur police station in Gopalganj district late January 15 night. The criminals also mercilessly assaulted the priest and a devotee during and injected them some sedative. Both of them were freed on January 16 morning by some of the devotees, who reached the mutt, and admitted them to a  local hospital.

Locals said that an ancient Charkhiya mutt exists at village Khape. On January 15 evening, the temple was closed by priest Mahant Premchandra Das after evening prayers. He along with his disciple Raju Rajbhar went to sleep in a nearby hut. Around 1.30 am in the night, both of them woke up after hearing some commotion inside the mutt and found some persons removing the idols of Ram, Laxman and Sita, Ram Gopal and Laddu Gopal. When they tried to stop the criminals, they were assaulted and then tied with ropes. After that the criminals injected them some sedative and escaped with the idols. Vijayeepur police station SHO Pankaj Kumar reached the spot on Monday. An FIR was lodged against half a dozen persons in this connection.
