Gopalganj: The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-10, Gopalganj, on February 2 took strong exception to the failure of district police to submit case diary in a murder case that took place about 18 years back. The court also slapped a fine of Rs. 1,000 each on Gopalganj SP and Vijayeepur police station (PS) SHO.

The court charged the district police with remaining insensitive in the case and the matter is pending in the court for the past 18 years. Police had then submitted the final report after one year of the incident and said that they were unable to identify the accused. The court had then ordered investigation officer (IO) of the case to remain present in the court. When the IO did not appear in the court, a letter was sent to Gopalganj SP. The court had to extend 13 dates of hearing as the IO failed to appear in the court.

The court after making strong remarks against Gopalganj SP and Vijayeepur ps SHO sent separate copies of the order to District and Sessions Judge, State DGP and Saran range DIG. If both the aforesaid police officials fail to deposit the fine amount, the court directed the Treasury Officer to deduct the amount from their salaries of February month.

It may be mentioned here that a youth, family member of Sunil Kumar Sharma, a native of Gulam Tola in Dewariya district in Uttar Pradesh, was murdered in 1999. The youth along with his family members was coming to Musahari Bazaar to attend a marriage but was gunned down near Laximpur orchard. An FIR was lodged with Vijayeepur police station on the statement of Sunil Sharma and unidentified persons were made accused. After a year when the local police failed to identify the criminals, they submitted the final report in the court on May 10, 2000.
