Sasaram: District and Sessions Judge, Rohtas, Ram Shreshtha Rai on Monday ordered the in-laws of a woman to give Rs 10 lakh to her as compensation for demanding dowry from her and throwing her out of the house while keeping her ornaments with themselves. A married woman Sushma Devi had filed a case in the court alleging that her husband Santosh Kumar, father-in-law Shyam Bihari and other in-laws were torturing her physically and mentally for a dowry of Rs 8 lakh ever since her marriage in 2007. She alleged that in 2012, when their demands were not fulfilled, her in-laws thrashed her and threw her out of her house and kept all her ornaments worth about Rs 5 lakh with themselves. The accused have deposited the amount in the court.
