New Delhi : Coronavirus death toll jumped to 1,147 in India at 8 am on May 1, 2020, with 72 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country since the last update issued by Union H &FW Ministry on April 30, 2020, evening. But, the silver lining is that the number of patients cured/discharged has shot up to 8,888 in India including 1,773 in Maharashtra, 1,258 in Tamilnadu, 1,094 in Delhi, 613 in Gujarat, 482 in MP, and 397 in Telangana.

Among States/UT, Maharashtra alone accounts for 459 deaths followed by Gujarat with 214 deaths. MP has reported 137 deaths so far followed by 59 in Delhi, and 58 in Rajasthan. UP has reported 39 deaths while West Bengal accounts for 33 deaths. Tamilnadu and Telangana have reported 27 and 26 deaths respectively while Karnataka accounts for 21 deaths. Punjab has reported 19 deaths while Andhara Pradesh accounts for 31 deaths and J&K has reported 8 deaths. Haryana and Jharkhand have reported 3 deaths each while Bihar has reported 2 deaths. Kerala accounts for 4 deaths.

The number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 25.007 in the country.
