New Delhi : novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll surged to 273 in India at 8 am on April 12, 2020, with 31 new deaths being reported since the last update issued by Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry on April 11. The number of active Coronavirus cases increased to 7,367 in the country while the number of confirmed cases crossed 8,000 mark.

The silver lining is the number of cured/discharged patients is also rapidly increasing and reached 715 on April 12 morning. Altogether 15,24,266 passengers have been screened at different airports in the country.

Meanwhile, three more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar taking the total number of such cases in the state to 64. Of the three, one is a 16-year-old girl from Nawada and the other two are men, aged 40 and 63, from Begusarai district, according to Principal Secretary, Health Department, Bihar, Sanjay Kumar. Bihar has reported one death so far while 18 patients have recovered from the disease.

Nine Districts in Bihar : Siwan, Munger, Patna, Gaya, Gopalganj, Saran, Nalanda, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, have reported Coronavirus confirmed cases so far. Siwan has been identified as a hotspot for COVID-19 with 29 confirmed cases being reported from there followed by Munger and Begusarai with seven each, Patna and Gaya with five each, Gopalganj and Nawada with three patients each, Nalanda with two cases, and one each in Lakhisarai, Saran, and Bhagalpur.

The Coronavirus confirmed cases in Bihar nearly doubled during the week after 20 members of a family tested positive for the disease at village Panjwar village in Siwan district in North Bihar. The village has been completely sealed with bamboo barricades erected on the streets. NDRF personnel have been pressed into service to fumigate the area.
