New Delhi : Coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll jumped to 1,783 in India at 8 am on May 7, 2020, registering 89 new deaths since the last update issued by Union H & FW Ministry on May 6, 2020, evening. On the positive side, the number of Coronavirus patients cured/discharged too has jumped to 15,266 in the country including 2,819 in Mahatrashtra. The number of active COVID-19 cases has increased to 35,902 in the country.
Among the States/UTs, Maharashtra has recorded 617 deaths due to COVID-19 followed by Gujarat with 368 deaths. MP has reported 176 deaths while West Bengal has recorded 140 deaths. Rajasthan has reported 89 deaths followed by Delhi with 64 deaths. UP has reported 56 deaths while Andhra Pradesh has reported 36 deaths.
The COVID-19 death toll in Tamilnadu is 33 while in Telangana and Karnataka it is 29 each. Punjab has reported 25 deaths while J&K has reported 8 deaths and Haryana 6. Bihar and Kerala have reported 4 deaths each while Jharkhand has reported 3 deaths and Himachal Pradesh 2.
SOPs issued for movement of Indian Nationals stranded outside the country: Many Indian Nationals who had travelled to different countries before the lockdown for various purposes such as employment, studies/ internships, tourism, business, etc., are stranded abroad. Due to their prolonged stay abroad, they are facing distress and are desirous of returning to India urgently. Apart from the above cases, there are other Indian Nationals who need to visit India in medical emergencies or death of a family member. Also, many persons are stranded in India who desirous to travel abroad urgently for different reasons. In order to facilitate the movement of such persons, the MHA has issued Standard Operating Protocols, according to a PIB release.
