New Delhi : novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll jumped to 166 in India at 8 am on April 9, 2020, with 17 new deaths including 8 in Maharashtra and 3 in Gujarat recorded since last update by Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry on April 8 evening. The number of cured/discharged patients has increased to 472 in the country on April 9. The number of Coronavirus active cases in the country is 5,095.

Maharashtra has so far reported 72 deaths due to COVID-19 followed by Gujarat with 16 deaths while MP has reported 13 deaths due to the disease and Delhi 9. Punjab and Tamilnadu have reported 8 deaths each. Jharkhand reported first death due to Coronavirus in the state on April 8 night. West Bengal and Karnataka have reported 5 deaths each due to the disease while UP, J&K, and Andhra Pradesh have recorded 4 deaths each..

Maharashtra has reported 1,135 confirmed cases so far while Tamilnadu has reported 738 confirmed cases and Delhi 669. Bihar has so far reported 38 confirmed COVID-19 cases of which 15 patients have been cured/discharged while one died.
