World Number 28 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 34, Germany, also entered the Round of 32 by defeating World Number 46 Yuichi Sugita, Japan, 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 64.

World Number 47 Pablo Cuevas, Uruguay, shocked World Number 15 and 12h seed Jack Sock, 25, USA, 6-7, 6-4, 6-0, to enter the Round of 32.

World Number 45 Leonardo Mayer, Argentina, shocked World Number 19 Fabio Fognini, Italy, the 16th seed, 6-3, 6-4, to enter Round of 32 of the tournament. And so did World Number 43 Denis Shapovalov, 18, Canada, who defeated World Number 50 Benoit Paire, France, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

Gael Monfils, France, the World Number 41, defeated World Number 77, Nicoloz Bashillasvili, Georgia, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, to enter Round of 32 where he will meet World Number 1 and five time champion Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain.

Evgeny Donskoy, Russia, the World Number 90, defeated Greek teen sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas, the World Number 40 in ATP rankings,  5-7, 6-4, 7-6, to enter the Round of 32. World Number 14 and 11th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, defeated World Number 53 Jared Donaldson, USA, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
