Constable shoots close relative dead at Patna policelines

Patna : Dilip Singh, 40, a Police Constable and native of village Birju under Bakhtiarpur police station in Patna district, shot dead his very close relative Dipak Kumar Singh, 22, younger son of another Constable Rajendra Singh, 50, around 7.20 am on May 15, 2018, with his SLR when he was sleeping at his residence at Patna policelines, Lodipur. Dipak was shot in the head. The reason behind the shootout is yet to be ascertained.

Rajendra Singh is Constable driver at Agamkuan police station, Patna, and his elder son Ashu Kumar, 25, is also a Constable driver. Dilip’s sister is married to Ashu Kumar. Deepak was preparing for competitive exams. Dilip was allegedly mentally unstable and under treatment for the past three years following death of his 12 year old son. Suprisingly, he was still being assigned rifle duty.

Ashu and neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the sound of firing. Ashu tried to overpower Dilip but he jumped from the first floor with rifle and escaped. He, however, returned after sometime and fired one round again standing on the ground but the bullet hit the ceiling. Dilip was finally overpowered by a Havildar inside the policelines.
