Bokaro ( Jharkhand) :  Chas Municipal Corporation ( CMC)  in Bokaro district in Jharkhand on March 29, 2018, floated an online tender for establishment of a plant for garbage disposal and recycling of solid waste for more than 2.5 lakh residents  of Chas township on 10 acre land  at Kalapathhar under Chas bock, about 7 km away from Chas township. Chas is known as satellite city of Bokaro Steel City.

According CMC Mayor Bholu Paswan, the tender for the plant worth over Rs 311 crore has been floated and it will be established with  financial assistance from state and central government. The final decision on selection of contractor will be taken keeping in mind the track record of the bidders and after the approval of Jharkhand State  Urban Development Department. The  entire tender process will be transparent, he said.

The Mayor said though the land for establishment of the plant at Kala Pathhar was acquired 4 years back but since few locals started opposing the move, the first job for the contractor and CMC will be for  construction of the boundarywall to prevent encroachments and safety of land. The Solid Waste Recycling Plant will be established on the plot within 6 months of opening of tenders for construction boundarywall, he said.

“ Once the  recycling plant becomes operational, fertilizers will be produced which will also be sold in market fetching good revenue to  CMC,” informed the Mayor. At present, the garbage collected from all the 35  wards of Chas are dumped either near highways or on forest land.
