CM Nitish Kumar lauds achievements of MMP, promises all help to strengthen it

Ara : Bihar CM  Nitish Kumar on November 21, 2019,  inaugurated the two day centenary ceremony of Mounted Military Police (MMP) at MMP Ground at Ara, headquarters of Bhojpur District. The Chief Minister also inaugurated an exhibition, planted plant saplings, and unveiled statue of horse with horseman on the back. He also gave medals and certificates of appreciation to the MMP personnel who excelled at district, state and national level.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated the achievements of MMP during last 100 year and congratulated the MMP personnel and officials on the centenary celebration. He said despite latest technology, tools, and equipment, the MMP is important even today and asked the officials to make the people aware of its importance by organising such programmes at different places. He also advised to bring  more horses into the MMP and assured to extend all possible help for strengthening it. He said one day police would be bound to take help of MMP in maintaining law and order.

Nitish said that his government was trying hard to better the Bihar police and providing all facilities to them and also creating a work culture. He added that all the police stations in Bihar have been made hi-tech and have spacious buildings. He expressed concern over rising incidents of road accident and subsequent road blockade and added that the police should make the people  aware of road safety.

The CM said that a police Academy has been opened at Rajgir in Nalanda District and added that police officials from outside Bihar are coming to Rajgir to see it. Nitish stated that he was planning to upgrade the Rajgir Police Academy and open it for at least 4,000 police officials. He advised the police officials to be more responsible to the people.

DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, Bhojpur DM, Roushan Kushwaha, SP cum Commandant, MMP, Sushil Kumar and other senior officials of Bhojpur district administration were present on the occasion. DG, MMP, S K Singhal welcomed the guests while Bhojpur SP cum Commandant, MMP, Sushil Kumar extended vote of thanks. IG, Ajitabh Kumar, conducted the meeting.

The MMP personnel staged show-jumping programme keeping the visitors spellbound. Different events of sports and a cultural programme were also organized to mark the occasion.

Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Amir Subhani, said that he was proud of being a part of centenary celebration of MMP. Subhani said that he was the DM while S K Singhal was the SP of Bhojpur when Platinum jubilee of MMP was celebrated in 1994. He said MMP is part and parcel of police and added that horse is a symbol of vigour and victory. He cited some lines of a poem ‘Chetak’ composed by Shyam Narayan Pandey. He said that MMP has 101 horses.

IG, Ajitabh Kumar, said that the Britishers needed help of MMP in 1917 when some communal tension prevailed in Piro in the old Shahabad District. The MMP was founded on October 19, 1919, with headquarter at Ara under MMP Act 1892, he added. Earlier, it had five troops but later it rose to seven. T
