Patna : World No 42 & 2014 US Open Champion Marin Cilic, 32, Croatia, World No 46 Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 33, Spain, World No 48 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 21, Spain, and World No 50 Cameron Norrie, 25, UK, reached the semi-finals of Millennium Estoril Open, an ATP 250 points clay court event, at Estoril, Portugal, on April 30, 2021. Cilic will face Norrioe in the first SFs at 4.30 pm on May 1, 2021, while Vinolas and Fokia will clash in the second SFs the same day at 8.30 pm.
Cilic, the 6th seed, sailed into the SFs on walkover after his quarter-finals opponent and World No 105 Kevin Anderson, 34, South Africa, retired before the start of the second set due to injury. Cilic had won the first set 7-6.
Cameron Norrie upset 2nd seed Cristian Garin, 24, Chile, in a three-set battle 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in QFs in 2 hrs 22 minutes rallying back from one set down. Both the players fired 3 Aces each in the match. Norrie won 3 break points during the match to 2 by World No 22 Garin. Both the players also won 3 games each in a row during the match. Norrie, in all, won 102 points during the match to 92 by Garin.
Fokina, the 8th seed, beat 3rd seed Ugo Humbert, France, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in QFs in 79 minutes. The Spainiard won 4 break points during the match to 2 by the Frenchman. Fokina also won 4 games in a row during the match to 3 by World No 31 Humbert. Fokina, in all, won 64 points during the match to 50 by the Frenchman.
Vinolas, the 7th seed, beat World No 73 Corentin Moutet, 22, France, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in QFs. Vinolas won 5 break points during the match to 2 by Moutet. The Spainiard, in all, won 76 points to 67 by the Italian.
