Patna : Unseeded Hyeon Chung, 21, South Korea, defeated World Number 97 Tennys Sandgren, 26, USA, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals on January 24, 2018, to enter the semi-finals of Australian Open (AO) 2018.
Ranked 58 in the latest ATP rankings, Chung had defeated six time AO champion Novak Djokovic, 30, Serbia, in the fourth round. Born at Suwon, South Korea, Chung had turned professonal in 2014. Chung has made final four of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
In the Women Section, 2016 AO Champion and Number 21 seed Angelique Kerber, Germany, demolished Number 17 seed and 2017 US Open finalist Madison Keys, USA, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to move into the semi-finals of AO 2018.
