Patna : World No 92 Christian Garin, 22, Chile, beat World No 55 Leonardo Mayer, 31, Argentina, in a tough three-set contest in the quarter-final to enter the semi-finals of Basil Open, an ATP World Tour 250 points tournament played on clay courts, at Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Garin beat Mayer 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 1hr 47 minutes in the quarter-finals. Mayer though fired 13 Aces in the match to 8 by Garin. Garin broke Mayer’s service twice while the latter broke his service only once. Garin won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by Mayer.

World No 37 Laslo Djere, Serbia, and World No 60 Felix Augur-Aliassime, 18, Canada, have entered the quarter-finals of the tournament. They will clash in the QFs.
