Patna : World No 8 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) men’s singles rankings Kidambi Srikanth, 25, India, World No 4 Chen Long, 30, China, World No 6 Viktor Axelsen, 25, Denmark, advanced to the quarter-finals of  Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2019 on January 24, 2019.

Srikanth beat World No 10 Kenta Nishimoto, 24, Japan, 21-14, 21-9 in the second round in 30 minutes at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, to reach the quarter-finals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament. Srikanth won 42 rallies in the match to 23 by Nishimoto. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Nishimoto. Srikanth leads Nishimoto 4-1 head to head.

Reigning Olympic Champion Chen Long, the 4th seed, defeated World No 15 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 20, Thailand, 21-19, 21-10 in the second round in 53 minutes on January 24. Of the 71 points played in the match, Long won 42 while Wangcharoen won 29. Long leads Wangcharoen 2-1 head to head.

Axelsen, the 2017 World Champion, beat World No 17 Kanta Tsuneyama, 22, Japan, 21-11, 21-9 in the second round in 33 minutes. Axelsen won 42 rallies in the match to 20 by Tsuneyama. Axelsen leads Tsuneyama 2-0 head to head.

World No 7 Anthony Sinisuka Jinting, 22, Indonesia, and World No 18 Anders Antonsen, 21, Denmark, also reached the quarter-finals on the tournament on January 24. Jinting beat Zhao Junpeng, 22, China, 21-15, 21-12 in the second round in 41 minutes while Antonsen beat World No 53 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, 24, Indonesia, 21-11, 21-9 in the second round in 45 minutes.
