Motihari :  The left Champaran  embankment of Gandak river was breached  in a stretch  of 150 feet  near Bhawanipur village
under Sangrampur block  in East Champaran district in the wee hours on July 24, 2020. The gushing flood water is spreading fast to  over  50 villages  in Sangrampur, Kotawa, Kesariya, and Kalyanpur  blocks of the district. The Sahebganj block  area  of Muzaffarpur  District will also be affected by the flood.

East Champaran DM Shirshat Kapil Ashok  with Deepak Kumar, Executive Engineer, Flood Control, Champaran Division, are
camping at the site and two teams of NDRF and SDRF are engaged in rescue and relief operation  in marooned  areas . The flood victims
are  being rescued  by NDRF team  and are taking shelter at safer places  like  schools , NH 28, and other places . The labourers
were engaged in  plugging the breached site  and  flood protection work is being monitored  by  Water Resource Department officers.        The flood waters has entered the remote areas very fast triggering panic among the people.

The administration has  pressed  five motorboats  in rescueoperations. The flood water  has posed  danger to  Barauni-Lucknow NH28 .    According to water resource department, river Gandak also breached  Saran  right  embankment  near  Dewapur  on July 24, 2020,
in Gopalganj  district and the flood water has entered in 14 panchayats of the district .
