Patna : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who on August 13, 2017, discussed the flood situation in Bihar 2ith CM Nitish Kumar on telephone, said that the Centre is rushing additional NDRF teams to the state to extend help in on going rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas. Around 320 NDRF teams have rushed to Bihar.

Sources inĀ  State Disaster Management Department said that seven NDRF ream each comprising 45 personnel have reached the affected areas. Several villages in East Champaran, West Champaran, Kishanganj and Purnia districts have been affected by flood.

A swollen Kankai river overtopped Majkuri Jahanpur embankment on August 12, 2017, night, damaging the embankment in a stretch of 20 metre where it meets NH 63 in Kishanganj district while a furious Lalbakia river has overtopped right marginal embankment at village Balua under Dhaka block in East Champaran district damaging the embankment partially. Rivers originating from Nepal have also created havoc in areas of West Champaran district.
