New Delhi : On the directions of PM Narendra Modi, a central team of multi-disciplinary experts has been deputed to Tamil Nadu to investigate the outbreak of febrile illness (Dengue) in the state. The team will provide technical assistance to the State in dengue case management and vector control.
The Central team includes doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), New Delhi, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi. The team will not only assess the situation but will also provide necessary guidance to manage and address the recent upsurge. The central expert team will hold meetings with the State Health Minister and other senior officers of the state, according to a PIB release.
It has been noted that till October 12, 2017, 12,324 Dengue cases and 18 deaths due to Dengue have been reported from Tamil Nadu. Maximum number of Dengue cases have been reported from Thoothukudi (1,178), Chennai (1,138), Sankarankoil (1,072), Coimbatore (942), Thirupur (782) and Kanyakumari (777). Deaths due to Dengue have been reported from Thirupur (4), Erode (3), Salem (3), Coimbatore (2), Karur (2), Trichy (1), Sankarankoil (1), Namakkal (1) and Dharmapuri (1), according to the PIB release.
