Patna : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)  has taken over investigation into the alleged sexual exploitation of over 30 inmates of Muzaffarpur Balika Grih in Muzaffarpur district run by an NGO Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti under the guidance  of State Social Welfare Department, which also provided 90 % of total fund as grant.

Bihar Government had on July 26, 2018, recommended CBI probe into the whole episode. The CBI has booked officers and employees of Balika Grih in the case. Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti was running Muzaffarpur Balika Grih since November 2013. A CBI team is learnt to have already visited Muzaffarpur.

The sexual exploitation of inmates of Muzaffarpur Balika Grih had come to surface during Social Audit of different Shelter Homes run by Social Welfare Department by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, which submitted its report to Bihar Government on April 27, 2018. Assistant Director, District Child Protection Unit, Muzaffarpur, had lodged an FIR with Mahila Police Station, Muzaffarpur, on May 31, 2018.

Director of Muzaffarpur of Muzaffarpur Balika Grih Brajesh Thakur, CPO Ravi Kumar Raushan and 8 others have already been arrested in this connection. Muzaffarpur Balika Grih was closed on May 31, 2018, and Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti was blacklisted. A former Assistant Director of District Child Protection Unit, Muzaffarpur, Roza Rani, has been suspended for negligence in duty.
