Patna : World Number 2 Caroline Wozniacki, 27, Denmark, entered the final of Australian Open (AO) 2018 defeating Elise Mertens, 22, Belgium, in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, in one hour and thirtyseven minutes in the semi-finals at Melbourne on January 25, 2018. It is Wozniacki’s first foray into AO final. World Number 37 in WTA rankings on January 15, 2018, Mertens was playing in the AO for the first time but put up a good fight in the second set taking it to the tie breaker.

Wozniacki had lost in the semi-finals of AO in 2011 to Li Na, China. Born at Odense, Denmark, on July 11, 1990, Wozniacki lives at Miami, Florida, USA, and has won 27 WTA titles including six in 2010 and 2011. She was runner-up at the US Open in 2009 and 2014. Wozniacki had won Wimbledon Girl’s singles title in 2006. She turned professional in 2005.
