Patna : Fifth seed Carolina Marin, 27, Spain, the reigning Olympic champion and three-time former World Champion, entered the women’s singles final of Toyota Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton tournament, at Bangkok, Thailand, on January 23, 2021. Carolina beat 7th seed A N Se Young, 18, South Korea, 21-19, 21-15 in 51 minutes in first semi-finals.
Carolina will face the winner of the second semi-finals between top seed Tai Tzu Ying, 26, Taiwan, and 4th seed Ratchanok Intanon, 25, Thailand, in the final on January 24, 2021.
Carolina, who had won the Yonex Thailand Open singles title on January 17, 2021, defeating World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying in the final, won 42 rallies in the match to 34 by Young. The Spainiard won 5 consecutive points during the match to 4 by the South Korean. Carolina now leads Young 4-1 Head to Head.
