New Delhi : There is a casual vacancy in the Bihar Legislative Council to be filled up by the members of Legislative Assembly. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to hold a bye-election to the Bihar Legislative Council by the members of the Legislative Assembly on October 4, 2021, to fill this vacancy.
The vacancy was caused due to death of a sitting Member Tanveer Akhtar on May 9, 2021, according to a PIB release. The ECI has directed the Chief Secretary, Bihar, to depute a senior officer from the State to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the election.
