Patna : World No 12 Pablo Carreno Busta, 29 Spain, World No 14 Denis Shapovalov, 22, Canada, and World No 16 Hubert Hurkacz, 24, Poland, crashed out of the Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1,000 clay court tournament, at Madrid, Spain, on May 4, 2021, losing their respective first round matches.

World No 42 John Millman, 31, Australia, defeated 12th seed Hubert Hurkacz, the winner of Miami Open, an ATP Masters 1,000 event recently, in a three-set battle 5-7,7-6, 6-3 in 2hr 22 minutes in 1st round overcoming 11 Aces hammered by the Pole Millman served just 1 Ace during the match. Hurkacz also committed 3 double faults to 1 by the Australian.  Both the players won 2 break points each during the match. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Millman won 99 points during the match to 98 by Hurkacz.

World No 77 Federico Delbonis, 30, Argentina, stunned World No 12 Pablo Carreno Busta in a three -set contest 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in first round . Delboni won 6 break points during the match to 5 by Busta. Both the players won 6 games each in a row during the match. Busta though fired 5 Aces in the match to 2 by the Argentine. Incidentally, Busta, in all, won 88 points during the match to 87 by Delbonis.

World No 44 Alexander Bublik, 23, Kazakhstan, upset 11th  seed Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in first round.Bublik hammered 10 Aces during the match to 6 by the Canadian. Shapovalov committed a suprising 14 double faults during the match to 6 by Bublik. The Kazak won 3 break points during the match to 2 by the Canadian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.  Bublik, in all, won 112 points to 104 by the Canadian during the match.

World No 7 Andrey Rublev, 23, Russia, entered the 2nd round defeating World No 58 Tommy Paul, 23, USA, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in first round in 2hr 19 minutes coming back from one set down. Paul  fired 7 Aces in the match to 2 by the Russian. Rublev won 5 break points to 3 by the American.

World No 37 Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 33, Spain, defeated World No 30 Taylor Fritz, 23, USA, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 to enter the 2nd round. Vinolas won 3 break points to 2 by Fritz. Both the players won 3 games each in a row during the match. Fritz fired 6 Aces during the match to 4 by the Spainiard. Vinolas, in all, won 106 points during the match to 99 by Fritz. Vinolas will face Delbonis in next round.,
