Patna: Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) Secretary Parmeshwar Ram was arrested by a special investigating team (SIT) headed by Patna Senior SP (SSP) Mannu Maharaaj on February 8 in connection with leakage of BSSC Grade 3 examinations held on February 5. Formalities for sending Ram to judicial custody was nearly complete. Confirming the arrest, the SSP said that Ram had been arrested by a Patna police team.

Police said that Ram was detained for interrogation after a raid was carried out at his Bhagwat Nagar house in Agamkuan, Patna, on February 7 night as SIT team had seized several documents related to the examinations being conducted by BSSC. Ram was interrogated by a SIT team after his detention and his interrogation was still going on.

Sources said that SIT team led by SSP has submitted its preliminary report to the state police headquarters. It has also recommended for setting up more investigating teams for probing the irregularities in holding the examinations. Police had taken into custody seven persons including Ram and data operator of BSSC on February 7 for questioning. Police said that besides Patna Police and its SIT, Economic Offence Unit (EOU) has also joined the investigation. EOU might file a case of DA against Ram.

The SIT has recommended for cancellation of BSSC examinations, sources said. Apart from Patna, FIRs have been lodged in six other districts of the state as well in connection with leakage of question papers before the examinations. Different students’ union are staging demonstration demanding cancellation of BSSC examinations.
