Patna : The Congress party on September 26, 2017, removed Ashok Chaudhary, MLC and a former minister, from the post of BPCC president with immediate effect. This follows reports that he along with some other legislators was planning to join the JD(U) allegedly by splitting the party..

These congress legislators are strongly opposed to party’s alliance with the RJD and had even said so to AICC president Rahul Gandhi recently. The party has, however, not yet announced Chaudhary’s replacement. The Congress party has 27 Members in Bihar Assembly and six MLCs in Bihar legislative council. Rahul Gandhi had met 20 Congress legislators from Bihar earlier this months to seek their views on the functioning of the party in the state.

Chaudhary’s father was also a Cabinet Minister in the Congress regime. Ashok Chaudhary was Education Minister in Grand Alliance government headed by Nitish Kumar. He was also a minister of state in Rabri Devi government.
