Raxaul ( East Champaran) : The India-Nepal border  was re-opened  on October 22, 2020, morning,  by the order of Union Home Ministry, Government of India, after 7 months but the Nepal government has decided to keep its border Check-Post and Immigration office closed  and has deployed para-military forces on  border. Nepal Government’s stand has left everyone surprised specially in border areas.

After remaining closed for 7 months in the wake of  COVID-19 pandemic,  the border Check-Post and Immigration Office at Raxaul in East Champaran District, Bihar, was opened for entry of Indians  by the orders of Union Home Ministry, said the Immigration officials at Raxaul. But, the police of adjoining Birgunj City of Nepal did not allow anyone from Indian side  to enter Nepal from Raxaul. Nepali citizens were, however, allowed by Nepal police to enter Raxaul in India.

A  businessman of Raxaul  Brajesh Jaiswal said that several bikers of Raxaul,  who were  going to Birgunj, Nepal, were beaten up by Nepal police and forced to return to Raxaul. The police officers of Nepal deployed on border entry point said they have  not  received any order for opening of border from Kathmandu. According to sources, Nepal will open its border after  November 15, 2020, after Chhath festival.

The Raxaul  Immigration and Customs office too closed its gate on October 22, 2020, evening.
