Bokaro: Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bokaro, Jharkhand, P R Naidu has invited ‘elephant chasers’  from Purulia once again  within 7 days to chase away the herd of 15 elephant which were spotted on Friday night at Akshya jungle zone in Petarwar, about 40 km away from Bokaro steel city.

The herd of  15 elephants, which  killed a young lady Chanchala Devi on July 22 and for next two days damaged several houses of poor farmers of Pachmo village besides damaging their standing crops under Gomia block  of Bokaro, was chased to Ramgarh–Hazaribagh deep jungle zone  on July 24 by West Bengal  based elephant chasers using dragon flash lights, crackers, drum beating and fire burning. But the jumbos have returned from Ramgarh-Hazaribagh  jungle zone  and villagers in Petarwar are fearing  for their lives and crops.

Naidu said that this time the forest official with help of Bengal elephant chasers will try to  chase away the elephants to Purulia jungle zone which is close to Petarwar forest zone.As Purulia jungle area is hardly 15—18 kms away from the place where the tuskers have been spotted, we will try to chase them away to Bengal junle area,” said Naidu.
