BJP to form govt in Tripura, Nagaland

Patna : The saffron party and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) have taken a massive lead in left ruled Tripura leading on 40 of the 59 seats the elections to which were held on February 18, 2018, virtually demolishing the red bastion in a historic verdict. The CPM led left front was leading only on 19 seats.

The CPM led left front was ruling Tripura for the past 25 years. Tripura BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb was leading on his seat. The Congress was wiped out in Tripura while the BJP has jumped to power from zero seat. Even after the Exit Poll results, senior left leaders were claiming that the left fron will form government in Tripura. The Mamata Bannerji led Treen Mool Congress had already uprooted the CPM from West Bengal.

The BJP and allies were also leading on 31 out of the 60 seats in Nagaland and appear  certain to form the saffron government there as well. The NPF and allies were leading on 25 seats. The Congress was leading on only two seats in Nagaland.

Congress, on the other hand, was leading on 22 of the 60 seats in Meghalaya but trends suggest it is unlikely to get a clear majority in the state and formation of a non-congress  government in the state appears a possibility.

The results of the assembly polls in Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, indicate that the BJP is the only pan India party. Union Minister of State for Home Kiran Rijiju said that the poll results in the three North-Eastern states will completely change the political scenario in the region. He said that the BJP’s poll campaign was development centric. Rijiju said that militants were running parallel government in Nagaland and were collecting tax from the people.

The BJP is already in power in Assam, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.
