Bill Gates calls on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

Patna : Bill Gates, the co-chair of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, on November 17, 2019, called on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar at ‘ Samvad’ here and discussed ways to carry forward the agenda of health and nutrition in the state. Nitish reiterated his Government’s commitment to meet the health and nutritional growth targets in the state. Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, and senior officers were present on the occasion.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates appreciated Bihar Government work in fighting poverty and diseases during past 20 years. He said only a few places have made more progress against poverty and fighting diseases than Bihar during past 20 overs. A child born in Bihar today is more likely to reach his/her fifth birthday, he added. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is committed to working with Bihar Government to ensure health and education to all children, a press release quoted Gates.

Nitish expressed his happiness with the collaboration with the Foundation to improve public health services, community level behaviour changes, and augmenting  innovation across health, nutrition, and agriculture. Bill Gates was informed about CM Nitish Kumar’s programme “Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali” to combat the impact of climate change.
