Patna  A total of 1,659 more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Bihar including 1,015 in Patna in last 24 hours, up from 893 cases on January 4, 2022, in an alarming surge in the disease in the state. The Active casesload jumped to 3,697 in the state including 2,283 in Patna on January 5, 2022, up from 2,222 on January 4, 2022. Bihar, however, did not report any new death due to Covid-19 in last 24 hours and the toll remained static at 12,096 on January 5, 2022.

The new 1,659 Covid cases included 1,659 in Patna, 168 in Gaya, 59 in Muzaffarpur, 45 in Jehanabad, 38 in Nalanda, 23 in Darbhanga, 20 in Vaishali, 18 in Samastipur, 18 in Munger, 16 in Bhagalpur, 15 in West Champaran, 14 in Aurangabad, 14 in Rohtas, 12 in Begusarai, 12 in Bhojpur, 11 in Katihar, 10 in East Champaran, 10 in Kishanganj, 10 in Saran, 9 in Araria, 9 in Khagaria, 8 in Madhepura, 8 in Sitamarhi, 5 each in Madhubani, Siwan, and Gopalganj,  4 each in Arwal, Banka, Purnia, Buxar, and Supaul, 3 in Sheikhpura, 2 in Saharsa, and 1 in Lakhisarai, and 19 from outside Bihar, according go State Health Department figure.

Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Tar Kishore Prasad and Renu Devi, and three ministers have tested positive for Covid-19. Around 21 personnel posted CM’s residene have also tested positive for Covid-19. Several doctors and students of NMCH, Patna, and ANMMCH, Gaya, have also tested positive for Covid-19. tate Mines & Geology Minister Janak Ram to attend Cabinet Meeting virtually on January 5, 2022, as he had not undergone RT-PCR test.

Bihar Government on January 4, 2022, evening, enforced Night Curfew in the state from 10 pm to 5 am while religious places cinema halls, shopping malls clubs swimming pools, parks, and gyms will remain closed till January 21, 2022. The shops will remain open till 8 pm.

Bihar has logged 7,30,425 Covid-19 cases of which 7,14, 631 patients have recovered including 184 in last 24 hours. The recovery rate (RR) of patients dropped to 97.84% on January 5, 2022, from 98.03% on January 4, 2022. The state tested 1,64,408 sample on January 4, 2022.
