Patna:  As the flood situation in Patna deteriorated on Saturday evening, the state government posted 26 officers of deputy secretary rank on deputation at Patna Collectorate. The General administration department (GAD) asked the officers to report to Patna DM on Saturday itself. They have been asked to supervise and monitor flood relief and rescue operations at different places.

The government cancelled the leave of all officers and employees of Patna Collectorate and its subordinate offices. Leave of all doctors too have been cancelled. The water level of Ganga crossed 1994 highest flood level mark at Patna and flowing at 4 feet above danger level and entered the low-lying areas of Danapur cantonment. A temporary relief camp has been set up at  Patna Collectorate fields where flood-hit people from rural areas have been accommodated.

In Saran district too, swollen Ganga entered 50 villages. Saran DM Deepak Anand, in a press note, said 60 boats have been pressed into service in  six  blocks and policemen have been directed to patrol all embankments. Movement of traffic between Patna and Chhapra was suspended as Ganga waters overtopped national-highway at Doriganj.
