Patna : Bihar Governor Fagu Chauhan, as advised by CM Nitish Kumar, on November 19, 2020, removed Education Minister Dr Mewa Lal Chaudhary from his post with immediate effect just three three days after he was sworn-in as a Minister. Building Construction Minister Ashok Chaudhafy has been given additional charge of Education Department.
Chaudhary, who was allotted Education portfolio on November 17, 2020, a day after being sworn-in as Member of the State Cabinet, was a named accused in a five-year-old case relating to alleged irregularities in appointment of teachers and technicians in Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, during his tenure as the Vice Chancellor. His induction into the State Cabinet had triggered controversy. Chaudhary assumed charge of his department on November 19, 2020, at around 1 pm itself but had to resign within 75 minutes.
Chaudhary, a JD(U) leader, was elected from Tarapur Assembly Constituency in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly polls.
