Patna : Assam, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Uttarakhand and Puducherry (UT) recorded 100 per cent voting in the presidential election held on July 17, 2017. Overall, around 99 % polling was recorded in the poll held to elect India’s 14th President. PM Modi was the first to cast his vote in Parliament House. The counting of votes will begin at 11 am on July 20.
Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Bihar assembly Prem Kumar claimed that Independent MLAs had voted for NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. Bihar Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav claimed 100 per cent voting by the RJD and Congress MLAs in favour of opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar. Three CPI(ML) MLAs also voted for her, according to sources.
Meanwhile, Union Minister and former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu, 68, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was on July 17 declared as the NDA’s candidate for the post of Vice-president. Gopal Krishna Gandhi is the opposition candidate for the post. Naidu will file his nomination on July 18.
